Radeon HD, Catalyst, and Dual Monitor Woes

I just installed the drivers and Catalyst for my video card, a Radeon HD 4300, and I’m having one heck of a time getting Catalyst to do anything.

Should I change a setting like resolution, then select apply, Catalyst quits without doing anything. This is the administrator copy of Catalyst.

I can no longer do anything with the standard Monitor preference panel. Prior to installing Catalyst, at least I had the two monitors in extended desktop mode, without a hitch. Now, the standard prefpane is unusable, and there is no other way to extend the displays beside Catalyst. That is abending though.

Has anyone experienced strange behavior like this with Catalyst? I have tried reinstalling and I get the same behavior.

When you do not even explain what version of openSUSE you are using, I guess many people will skip this thread for lack of information.
Maybe you will even explain more about your environment when you take a few moments to think over the fact that none of us is clairvoyant. :wink:

You’re absolutely right, not enough info on my part.

I’m using openSUSE 11.4 2.6.27.6-0.7. Catalyst version 11.9. Catalyst Control Center 2.13.

Video board is an ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series.

Don’t know what other specifics I can give aside from general hardware.
