I have a few questions about running virtualbox.
-
what is the difference between the repo version and the sun .rpm version?
-
will usb, printer, etc. be available to the guest os?
-
Will my computer be able to handle running 2 os?
after upgrade I will have a p4, 1g ram (333 ddr), and a 250g hard drdive.
I would appreciate any advice that can be offered. My goal is to install WinXP and to help test new version of openSUSE with openbox.
Sun provides the free but closed version of VBox. The version on the repos is open source. The only other major difference between the two that I know of is that the Sun version has USB support, OSE does not.
1G RAM is not very much for virtualisation. XP will (just) manage with 256Gb but if you’re planning to use it in earnest, at least 512Gb is recommended. openSUSE really needs 1Gb, at least with KDE4, although openbox’s requirements may be much less. No worries about the CPU and HD, although the P4 may be a little slow as I don’t think it supports virtualisation natively.
Thanks for the advice. Sounds like i would be better off with a dual or tripple boot. I really only need windows for some old games i found in a box. I forgot I still had them.
