Question Regarding the new openSUSE Leap 42.1 default wallpaper

Can I make modification of the Leap default wallpaper?

In your own system?
Obviously

Yes
I mean is there any copyright issue if I make a new wallpaper
modified from the original.

Edit.
I was looking for this in openSUSE regarding the license of the
wallpaper if it is gpl or not but I can’t find a link.

It’s distributed freely
Most stuff that is copyright would carry the ©

Do you have a link where to find it?
Because I might be tempted to post the screeny here:
and be in trouble.

https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Artwork_brand
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Trademark_guidelines

The licence for branding-openSUSE is BSD-3-Clause;
https://opensource.org/licenses/BSD-3-Clause
Best to ask on the IRC project channel or project Mailing List if your concerned.

Hi,
I’m referring to the Leap 42.1 dark wallpaper with the big light bulb?
I will not change the logo?

Hi
Yes, which is part of the package I indicated;

The package includes the license, so;

cat /usr/share/doc/packages/wallpaper-branding-openSUSE/COPYING

Tells you what you can do :wink:

Thanks,
It is good to know.
Was hoping I can modify it like adding more bulbs but
with

cat /usr/share/doc/packages/wallpaper-branding-openSUSE/COPYING

I’ll just forget about doing so.

Thanks again.

Hi
AFAIK, make changes and submit your changes to the github site for inclusion :wink:

Hi,
How will I do that? Heh this is a nice wallpaper I did, the public should see this;)
I got this idea because I want to replace my Tumbleweed greeter and desktop
wallpaper. If you see my avatar I made it too.O:)

Hi malcolm,
Thanks for the help.
I try to look around the suse site again and since this is only a
wallpaper design it might be easier to post my artwork in the
SUSE-Art.org. I see the license there is under the creative commons.
What do you think?

Hi
Not sure, that’s something you would need to ask on IRC or ML, not sure if you can change the license like that, I’m not a legal eagle…

https://en.opensuse.org/Communicate

Have a browse through the archive might give some pointers;
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-artwork/

You are right, it is not the right place to go.
I tried the IRC and got friendly quick responses and was pointed
also to the openSUSE mail-list. I mail to seek advice/permission
in the openSUSE trademark guidelines and the process will take up
a week.

Thanks for your kind advice.

I guess it is not an easy process to ask permission regarding this wallpaper.
I did not get any response after the promised one week process.
I will just scrap this intention and focus on some other wall paper creation for my desktop.
