Question Regarding Text Size Increase in the OpenSUSE Installer

Hello everyone,

Here are my monitor specifications:

  • Diagonal Size: 16 inches
  • Resolution: 2560 x 1600
  • DPI: 183

I have a HiDPI monitor, and installing OpenSUSE has been quite a challenge for my eyes. Firstly, the text in the installer was extremely small and difficult to read. Secondly, the bright white background was so intense that it felt blinding.
Could you please advise if there’s any way to increase the text size?

I haven’t run the newer TW installer yet, so don’t know if SDB:Linuxrc - openSUSE Wiki still applies, but it has an option XVideo=1920x1200 that could be used to reduce resolution during installation, which enlarged installer text. Additionally, video=1920x1200 could reduce resolution on the consoles for the same reason and purpose. Lower resolutions like 1400x900 and 1280x800 would further enlarge text.

Thank you very much for your response and the link you provided. I’ll try booting from a virtual machine and applying the settings outlined in the documentation (XVideo=1680×1050)

Thank you so much, you’re the best! You’ve saved me and everyone else with a laptop or monitor with a HiDPI screen.
I set the optimal resolution to 1280x800, and the text is now comfortably readable.
I also added the Berkeley mirror [https://mirrors.ocf.berkeley.edu], and the package download speed increased significantly.
If I create a beginner’s wiki later, I’ll definitely give you a shoutout. Thanks again for your help!
