I heard something about the DMZ setting for you router and how you can open up all the ports. I don’t wanna open up all the ports for all the computers on my network, i just wanna open them all up for one computer on the network. How would i go about keeping the modem setting at medium, only allowing internet browsing with the parts close, and then just open up all the ports for one of the computers on the network.
Sorry if this isn’t explained well.
Im using a Westell versalink327w modem by the way.
A DMZ setting on a router typically means that all data going to the
router are forwarded on to the machine specified as the DMZ host. Unless
you are really sure this is what you want and understand this fully I
wouldn’t recommend using it. If you want a web server, forward just that
port. If you want SSH access, forward just that port (and change it while
you’re at it on the router’s listening side). If you want to be hit with
tons of junk that isn’t intended for you, use the DMZ setting. It’s
usually just for inbound and has nothing to do with your machine’s ability
to communicate with the Internet.
Good luck.
