I just want to be sure of this. If I upgrade by way of DVD offline, will there be an automatic format done?

If you upgrade, then it’s an upgrade - partitions aren’t formatted during
an upgrade. Doesn’t matter if you’re offline or online.
Best practice, though, is to back up important data and config files -
just in case. Not because it’ll format the partition, but if something
goes horribly wrong, it’s always good to have a backup.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Thank-you.

Certainly not.

Well, I’ve made the jump to 13.2. The offline upgrade went smoother than I thought it would (thankfully, of course).
Post-installation update (upgrade?) of the other software from other repositories went well. I am happy!
On the other hand, the culling of the extraneous kernels (from 13.1 and the one installed from the upgrade) had me running around in circles for a very short time (thankfully I have quite a few years experience with openSUSE and linux in general). Everything is working as it should (so far, as I haven’t tried all the programs that I had updated/upgraded).
