quanta takes 30 seconds to start (a kde3 program)

Hi. I use quanta-plus a lot for web coding. It has started to take 30 seconds to open.

I ran the execute in a console to see what might be happening. Here’s a startup session:

john@Tumbleweed132:~> /opt/kde3/bin/quanta
DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Could not open network socket
QObject::disconnect: Unexpected null parameter
QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::activePartChanged( KParts::Part * ) to KHTMLPart::slotActiveFrameChanged( KParts::Part * )
QObject::disconnect: Unexpected null parameter
QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::activePartChanged( KParts::Part * ) to KHTMLPart::slotActiveFrameChanged( KParts::Part * )

Here’s another session:
john@Tumbleweed132:~> /opt/kde3/bin/quanta

kbuildsycoca running...
DCOP Cleaning up dead connections.
QObject::disconnect: Unexpected null parameter
QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::activePartChanged( KParts::Part * ) to KHTMLPart::slotActiveFrameChanged( KParts::Part * )
QObject::disconnect: Unexpected null parameter
QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::activePartChanged( KParts::Part * ) to KHTMLPart::slotActiveFrameChanged( KParts::Part * )

And a third:

john@Tumbleweed132:~> /opt/kde3/bin/quanta
kbuildsycoca running...
DCOP Cleaning up dead connections.

They all take 30-ish seconds when usually it’s a blink of an eye to start

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I can only share another thread reporting the same for this unmaintained software

BTW, have you considered running it in a trinity desktop environment? (Just a thought.)

I don’t think I will try Trinity – it’s a lot of effort to get an old program running. Maybe I’ll try bluefish

It really depends on how important WYSIWYG is to you I guess. BlueGriffon or Aptana might be worth checking out too.

Wysiwig is a nuisance. I like to write the underlying lines.

I’m happy now because: I ran a zypper dup last night and huge numbers of files swapped out. Then today I used Quanta and it was fixed. There’d be no way to diagnose that so I’ll just move on with Quanta, cos it’s gone and got fixed in the avalanche of new files.

Good result. Always nice when updates fix things. :slight_smile:
