QAPC backup supply suitability

The old APC backup just died and replacement batteries cost almost the same
as a new supply so I’m looking at a replacement. The first one I found is
an APC Bac-UPS pn BN1350G. The capacity and price look pretty good but it
does not come with any software. Has anyone used this supply with Linux?
The only comm comnnector is the APC USB data port - is this supported by
apcupsd software?

I’ve used some other, older APC units but they were all supported via APC
software on Linux and their web site lists Windows-only support for this one
so I thought I’d ask before jumping in.

I recommend that you read this first

Apcupsd, a daemon for controlling APC UPSes

and make use of the apcupsd-users mailing list before making the decision on any purchase.

Thanks for the link, Deano. Things have gotten a lot more complicated since
I last fought my way thru this. I wish they would get to the point printers
are at and simplify life for us all - but that’s why people pay us the big
bucks I guess…

Follow-up: APC Back-UPS NS 1350G works fine with current apcupsd. The
article you link to is somewhat outdated but the needed info is there. It
doesn’t reference the systemd changes and I had to play a bit to get the
daemon running on start up but once I set that up in the services (Yast) it
goes nicely. Thanks again for the pointer.

Great. Thanks for the update.
