Why do some pulseaudio processes stay running after logout in opensuse 11.1?

This is what happens when users log out of my system:
lbrowne 32637 0.0 0.0 81036 2832 ? Ssl Mar10 0:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start
lbrowne 32644 0.0 0.0 8076 2564 ? S Mar10 0:00 /usr/lib/pulse/gconf-helper

Some processes are not shutting down after the logout. Example: they are started at boot time by the kernel.

Isn’t that what I stated? The kernel starts those two processes for every user while it is booting up, in fact I don’t think the kernel loads any pulseaudio modules during boot.
