Pulseaudio microphone boost

OpenSuse 11.4 64bit KDE.

How do I apply microphone boost for pulseaudio? Pavucontrol doesn’t seem to have it, and alsamixer only presents a single input channel setting without the usual options.

Thanks.

run alsamixer in terminal, use up, down, left right keys, tab etc…

Alsamixer shows only one adjustment for inputs and that is “level” and it is at 100%. I think that’s normal when pulseaudio is enabled.

Boost is NOT a nominal pulse audio control in pavucontrol. Having such a control is IMHO against the philosophy of pulse audio which is designed to simplify, not complicate things for users. Most new GNU/Linux users I talk to dislike the massive selection of controls that was available before pulse.

If one really wants to play with the boost then it can be done with the ‘amixer’ command and the appropriate syntax.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll work in that direction. I think I might have been confused by the two choices in the pavucontrol Input Devices, one being Analog Microphone / No Boost and the other Analog Microphone / Boost.
