pulse audio not detecting internal mic

I have just recently noticed that pulse audio has overtaken my alsa configuration.
I noticed because recently people have been commenting on the bad audio quality in skype calls.
Then I noticed in skype that it does not let me configure sound due to pulse audio and says I need to configure it with my system.

Pulse audio works quite well - and acutally gives me much better gain than I ever got with also.
However, I can’t get it to work with the internal mic on my lenovo sl510.

You can see in the screenshot here that the internal mic is available.

however, if I try to prefer the intel internal mic the settings don’t stick. once I leave this screen and return the intel mic has returned to the 4th most preferred device.
If I disable pulse audio I have full control over all my devices but the gain (sound level) I get is not as good as with pulse.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get pulse to pick up my internal mic and use it?

Using OpenSuse 11.4 64bit

Please let me know if any other info is needed.

Make sure you have the ‘pavucontrol’ installed. This will let you enable and configure your internal microphone via its control panel…

FWIW, I disabled PulseAudio on my KDE (openSUSE11.4) system.

thanks - that did the trick.
Needed to set to Internal Audio - Duplex.
Took me a little while and a bit of playing to work it out but got there in the end.

I used to have pulseaudio disabled and alsa was so much easier to configure out of the box on my system with alsamixer.
I don’t actually recall changing to pulseaudio but must have done somewhere along the way (unless it has been done automatically with some update) - but today when I switched back to alsa - while everything worked as I recalled - I really did notice a big drop in gain / volume (even with setting things full blast in yast)

pulseaudio seems to be all good for the moment though - will keep an eye to see if any other issues pop up.
