ps2toUSB mouse moves horizentally only

hi everybody,

I just install an open Suse 11.2 on a nex box,
with an ps2 to usb adapter
(ps2 keyboard & ps2 mouse are both attached to this adapter)

the keyboard is ok,
but the mouse is only mooving horizental, in a line (from left to rigth)
i can’t move the mouse vertical nor to any other direction !!

it’s a fresh install.

Just a few questions about your mouse.

  1. Does this mouse work properly under another OS install?
  2. Do you have another mouse that you can try?
  3. Is this mouse that does not work a mechanical mouse or an optical mouse?
  4. Have you ever used the USB to PS2 adapter before and found your mouse to work properly?

In the olden days, mechanical mice could get dirt inside which kept one direct from working. If your mouse is mechanical, drop out the ball and blow out any dirt that might reside within.

I have had optical mice fail as well, but normally it just means it is time for a new mouse. As for USB to PS2 adapters, most are very cheap and it is hard to say if it is at fault or not.

If you know your USB to PS2 adapter is good and your mouse is good, you might consider trying a new reinstall as you have not wasted too much time on the problem so far.

thank a lot for your quick reply,

the mouse work on other box.
the adapter is a new one, i didn’t use it before, nor test it on other box
the mouse is a mechanical one,

Well, since it is mechanical, I got to ask. Did you clean your ball(s) (plural when more than one mouse has a dirty ball). :wink: It is an old joke we used to have when mechanical mice where more common. It can’t hurt to check.

i just tested the adaptor in a windows box,
the mouse moves horizenatl also,

so the pb is in the adaptor :wink:

i will replace it with a different one
