There is no mouse wheel support in openSUSE 11.1, when the mouse is attached to the PS/2 connector. No events are shown from the mouse wheel in cat /dev/input/mouse0. I tried it with several different mice attached to the PS/2 connector and with none of them there was mouse wheel support. In openSUSE 10.2 there was mouse wheel support.
Please help me fix this problem.
Hmm, works fine here on 11.1 as it has for many versions. Sure it’s not some KDE or X setting issue?
Even in sax2 I could not get a mouse wheel working. If the mouse is attached to the USB connector, it works, but I have to use the PS/2 connector, because I intend to use a console switch.
I have the same issue. It was working on 11.0
Now I have the same issue on openSUSE 12.1 again.

how did you finally fix it on 11.1?
(i’d guess the same fix will work with 12.1…)
explain exactly how your mouse is arranged. that is, is it a wireless
mouse? or wired with a USB connector? or wired with a PS/2 connector?
that is, when you say you must use a “PS/2 connector, because I intend
to use a console switch” does that mean the mouse is actually a USB
mouse, and you are using a USB-to-PS/2 adapter because the “console
switch” only accepts PS/2 plug ins?
or, when you say “If the mouse is attached to the USB connector, it
works” is that because your mouse has a USB connector and when plugged
directly into your computer’s USB port (with no adapter) it works…
see, i’m thinking you probably need more than the most inexpensive
adapter you can find…when i needed a PS/2 to USB adapter the first one
i bought (about an inch long with USB on one end and PS/2 on the other)
didn’t work, but the one which cost twice as much and has a wire between
the two connector AND a ‘thing’ in between with electronics inside (made
by “Belkin”) works perfectly…
or, maybe the “console switch” you speak of may be so old (even just a
few years) that it is technically not able to cope with the newer
specifications…
there are lots of possibilities for the root cause.
