Protected WLAN and Toshiba Satellite L300

Hi,

I’m using a Toshiba Satellite L300 Laptop with OpenSuse 11.2. When I want to login in an unprotected WLAN with KNetWorkManager, it works fine, but when a have to enter a password it doesn’t work:
It asks me for the password, I enter it und check it, then I press OK and then, in the KNetWork frame is a message saying that the network will be activating, but after a few minutes, I asked for a password again, and if I type it again, the same procedure starts.
This is only with protected WLAN!

I hope, you can help me, because it isn’t funny to carry a 50 m lan cable with me ;).

Thanks,
xxd

For the protected wlan you need the key of the protect network holder. I have the same laptop and it connects wirelessly if I set up the network settings and key. Then in networkmanager when it connects it will ask once for the password and presto. If I fail to setup the settings &/or key it will do as you have found continually loop asking for the password.

Hi,
thanks for your answer. I know, that I need a password for a protected WLAN, and I know, that the one I have is right because I checked it with the “Show Password”-Checkbox in the Login-Frame. The other settings weren’t touched by me, the OS have set them.
Besides, the WLAN must be working, because I can login in with a Win-PC. But this PC don’t show me any other settings, so I can’t compare.
In my first post, I’ve forgotten to tell you, that the same problems occoured with other protected WLANs, althougth I knew their key for sure.

The OS claims the Network to be WEP-protected, and if the frame is shown for the second time an after that, not passphrase is chosen, but Hexa-Key, wich is already typed in. Maybe it’s important.

Thanks for your help,
xxd

If you are using openSUSE 11.2, you need to create the connection using the
connection editor from the applet. There is a bug, and filling in the pop-up
screen does not work.

Hi,

it might sound stupid, but I don’t know what you mean with connection editor and applet. I’ve the german version of OpenSuSE, so maybe these things are called in different ways. So would you mind to describe these two programms? Thanks a lot.

Hi,

after a short time of research, I worked out, that you probably ment the GNOME-Applet, don’t you? Doesn’t matter, with the GNOME-Applet, it works fine. Thanks for your help.

As you didn’t say which desktop you used, I could not be more specific, but yes
I meant the applet. That is the system component that has the connection editor.
