programs disappear

hi,

i tried installing several programs from the repositories through Yast, the installation continues as usual, then at the end Yast disappears and the program is not showing anywhere. i checked again in Yast and it shows the program is installed, removed it and installed it again still the same. i was trying to install vlan, please help

vlan does not have a graphical interface, so you won’t find it in the menu. To configure vlan, use vconfig. Open a terminal read the man pages for vconfig for information.

In addition to chief_sealth correct response I would like to add this. For any program loaded by YaST in Software Management, select the File List Tab for the names and locations of files added by that application. File names shown in bold are executable I think. Anything loaded outside of YaST, like running a rpm install file in terminal, willl not be shown in YaST.

Thank You,

Yes, they will

Any way that you install an rpm, from any source, will show in Yast, because yast looks at the rpm
database, which is external.

What will not show is a tar.gz install, or a local compilation “make install” - because it is not an
rpm - although you can create and install the rpm, and then it will show.
