Problems with two screens in 64 bit 13.1 and 13.2

I have been running 32 bit versions of Suse. I’m currently running 13.1. I have
two video controllers (one on my motherboard; one an add-on card) controlling
two monitors. I have an xorg.conf file which sets up the two screens as Xinerama.
Without the xorg.conf file, I get only one screen – the other is ignored.

So I tried Suse 13.1 in 64 bit mode. It only sees one of my screens on startup,
so i put the usual xorg.conf file into /etc/X11 (exactly as I do with 32 bit 13.1)
and the system totally hangs up on boot.

Then I tried Suse 13.2 in 64 bit mode. It recognizes (and brings up) both screens.
This is the only version of Suse going back to 10.x which sees both on startup,
BUT (a) The mouse response is very sluggish and (b) I cannot move the mouse
between screens. I tried putting my usual xorg.conf file in /etc/X11. Then, when I boot
in, I get a terminal login. If I log in as root and run startx, I get errors about “no
screens”.
