Problems with sound

Hi all!
I have a fresh install of openSuse 11.1. And I have strange problems with sound. Sometimes it works sometimes - it don’t.
At first I had error “phonon failed to work, returning to default”, or something like that. I found in this forum, that it is because of “phonon-backend-xine”. I fixed this.
But still.

  1. Then suse starts there is no starting sound.
  2. flash sometimes have sound, sometimes - don’t.
  3. running skype gives “sound:overrun” error, but still it has sound.
  4. Now psx has no sound. “sound:overrun” error.
  5. Test sound in yast - don’t work.
  6. Testing with
speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav

sometimes works.
7. Closing suse, closing sound works.
I am using that new kernel,

uname -a
Linux linux-efu3 2.6.27.23-0.1-default #1 SMP 2009-05-26 17:02:05 -0400 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

I updated to new versiuon of drivers, like sugested in this forum. But still the same problems.

rpm -qa | grep alsa
alsa-plugins-1.0.18-6.12
alsa-utils-1.0.18-6.4
alsa-plugins-pulse-1.0.18-6.12

I want to work sound without error! Please help!
Btw. I am greene in linux, so if you know the solution - please tell me “step by step”.

Ok, I tried everything. I reinstalled suse again. And once again - no sound. I thought, that my sound hardware is broken, but:

  1. when I run suse from LiveCD - sound works.
  2. on intalled system sound works perfect only on shutting down system. I mean that sound, which is playing when you shutdown system. Maybe something from kde is working bad?
I took alsainfo from my LiveCD system:
    wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh
I have no idea what to do.

Sorry for misleading - looks like on fresh installed system sound works ok.

speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav

works ok.
But sound test in yast still silent. But thats not important. I think those problems because of an update kernel. Or maybe because of something i KDE…?

At last I figured out everything.
Sound is working ok. I think because I didn’t installed last pulseaudio update. This update craches my sound. So for now this update is in my “availble updates” list.

that’s useful to know… hrm, is this the kind of thing a bug report should be filed for?
