Hi there,
I just installed openSuse 11.2 yesterday to have a dual boot system with WinXP. Almost everything worked from the start except sound and internet. I could solve the internetproblem soon enough and today I could get the sound working by changing the order of the sound devices to be used (in soundconfiguration). When I rebooted to log on with my WinXP I found the sound was gone in windows how could this happen?
My device manager shows no inactivation of the soundcard and drivers are fine. I have a Soundblaster Audigy.
Another question: why is my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2900) in Linux also shown under audio device?
help would be much appreciated!

I’m pretty sure these aren’t connected as what you change in Linux has
no affect on the settings in Windows. They are installed on seperate
partitions and don’t share any configuration files.
I can’t help you troubleshoot sound in Windows; since I started using
Linux, I hardely even use Windows.
However my first step would be to check the volume control (not turned
down/muted), then check the device manager.

It’s curious because Audigy does not have a loadable firmware nor can Linux in any way flash or modify the card (obviously) (also I use Audigy 2+X-Fi in my machine and I used to run 7 as a secondary test OS without any issues). I would remove the power cord and press the power button a few times to empty the caps, then wait 15-30 seconds and replace the cord and boot to Windows to see if Audigy wakes up.
As for the ATi adapter showing up as an audio device, it’s because you have a video card with a HDMI output, this would show up as a Sound and Audio device in Windows too if you have the suitable drivers installed.
Thx for your replies.
I checked of course the volume controls, they are all up and not muted.
Sound works fine on linux but not on windows. so I doubt there is a problem with the card itself. It’s really strange because this happend just after I got the sound working in linux…
