My notebook is an HP Mini with no cd-rom. Operating system is SuSe enterprise edition 10. I want to have OpenSuSe 11 installed on it.
I’ve got some problems with installation OpenSuSe from my flash card.
I did stuff told at SuSE install from USB drive - openSUSE
I made a bootable flash. I booted from it. (I’ll list steps I made and consider being done ok just for info).
Then I was asked to “Make sure that CD number 1 is in your drive”. It’s not so I’m falling back (as told at the link). Than I’m choosing my language (ok).
In the main menu I click at “Start Installation” -> “Start Installation or Upgrade” -> (Choose the sourse medium) Hard Disk
After this I’m asked to “Choose disk partition” (one of the volumes is my flash card (sdb4)). And than to “Enter the sourse directory”. I choose sdb4 and enter “/”. Repository was found.
Than I had some problems.
After a while I’ve got message “No new Driver Updates found”. Is it ok?
Than first message after that one was “Your computer does not fulfill all requirements for a graphical installation. There is less then 96 MB memory or the X server could not be started. <…>” I don’t know why it’s so because I have 1 Gb memory. There might be some problems with drivers or X server… Can you tell what migth be not right?
Than YaST2 found some devices and asked to confirm drivers activation. I confirm all of them.
Should I choose New Installation or an Upgrade? Will everything work ok after the Upgrade?
I tried to upgrade. Some more drivers were asked to be activated. I activated them.
Than I got a worning strongly recommending “to start the old system and change the mount-by method to any other method far all partitions”.
As I understand I was asked to unmount /home (/dev/sda3 is mounted there).
Shell I unmount it or it’s ok?
I didn’t want to experiment any more so I’ll wait for advise.
P.S. Will I be able to recover base system using HP standart system recovery? (Model is hp 2133)
