Problems with nVidia GeForce 610M drivers

I have an ASUS K53S laptop ( i3_2350M, 4GB) with nVidia GeForce 610M_2GB gfx card (listed under the GeForce 7 series on this page). I have been running openSuse 12.2 on it for the last 3 months without a glitch and without the graphic card drivers as well. I installed the drivers from this page (used 1-click install for current cards) an hour ago. Since the reboot after installation, all the KDE plasma panels show in solid colour. I checked for the Open GL screensavers and found them to have stopped working as well. Following is the output of lspci:

Can you verify if the desktop effect in system is enabled and it is using opengl in the compositing type section.

Yes. Effects are enabled and compositing type is set to opengl.

May I point you to another way to load the nVIDIA drivers from here:

Installing the nVIDIA Video Driver the Hard Way: https://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/jdmcdaniel3/installing-nvidia-video-driver-hard-way-29/

AND

LNVHW - Load NVIDIA (driver the) Hard Way from runlevel 3 - Version 1.46: https://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/jdmcdaniel3/lnvhw-load-nvidia-driver-hard-way-runlevel-3-version-1-10-32/

Thank You,

This is an Optimus, hybrid, system, we have a couple of rescent posts on that:

Thanks a lot for the help jdmcdaniel3
I tried what you asked me to. I used lnvhw. I had to update the kernel-desktop too. The installation went through smoothly. But now on rebooting, system gets stuck after displaying the plymouth screen… :frowning:
last line displayed is:

systemd-fsck[498]: /dev/sda1: clean, .... files, ... blocks [OK]

Thanks a lot for the reply hank_se. But it seems, it seems it was a bit late for me…

Well, I just uninstalled the drivers. Things seem to be back to normal now.
I plan to give the Optimus posts a go in some days.

Thanks a ton for the help you three.
