Hi

I’m also relatively new to openSUSE Tumbleweed [only using it since May]. I can’t at the moment help you with Microsoft Office 2010 in PlayOnLinux in TW, but thought i’d just mention this fyi, as a “place-holder”.

The distro i used prior to migrating to oS TW was Maui Linux, & in that i successfully ran both MS Office 2010 Pro sp2, & MyPhoneExplorer, in dedicated WinePrefixes. Since i learned how to create & use them, i stopped using or wanting to use PoL… the WPs provided a totally seamless integration with the desktop, being able to launch Office / MPE “natively” directly from desktop icons or Application Menu items, just like real Linux pgms. Furthermore they ran reliably & with most [albeit not all] of the original MS functionality [which also was not fully available in PoL].

Once i migrated to TW, i tried to create these WPs along the same lines as i did in Maui, but so far without full success. If i can eventually solve it i’ll post back here in case you’d like to try a WP rather than PoL for MS Office.

I don’t use MS Office under wine but this looks like a graphic card issue
plasma 5 is known to have issues with nvidia and intel graphic cards all I can suggest is try and run the installer under another “lighter desktop” like lxde or lxqt
also TW is a rolling distro it always has the latest versions bugs do tend to go unnoticed in them
if not open a bug report about PlayOnLinux in
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/

… or use Libreoffice. It can handle .doc files.

Hi renzo9713.

I’m unsure if you are still here, but just in case you are, here’s the procedure for installing & running MS Office 2010 sp2 Pro in a dedicated WinePrefix [ie, [u]not PlayOnLinux]. Today i solved the final problem that had been stopping me.

sudo zypper install --no-recommends wine

NB: If running FireJail, **must** ensure there's no *Wine* entry in */usr/local/bin*; delete or rename it if there is.
Note: If during any of this procedure Wine prompts for Mono & Gecko to be installed & offers to do it, accept.

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-office2010 WINEARCH='win32' winecfg

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-office2010 WINEARCH='win32' winetricks corefonts msxml6

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-office2010 WINEARCH='win32' wine /run/media/gooeygirl/OFFICE14/setup.exe
this is with the Office 2010 installation dvd in the drive, & your UserID not mine of course.

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-office2010 WINEARCH='win32' winecfg
switch to tab Libraries and set riched20.dll to Native

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-office2010 WINEARCH='win32' wine officesp2010-kb2687455-fullfile-x86-en-us.exe
In Dolphin, navigate to wherever sp2 is stored ... & therein launch Konsole ... in which run the above command
this installs Service Pack 2. Skip this step if the installation dvd itself is sp2, or if you have no sp1 / sp2 patch file.

Even though this works, i did it more for the intellectual challenge rather than practical need; despite having been an intensive MS Office user since 1997, earlier this year i changed to LibreOffice once v5.3.3.2 became available. I really disliked LO before this, but that version was transformative. I am very pleased with it now. [albeit current version 5.4.0.3 seems to have a bug re spell-checking auto-correct, which has stopped working for me].

Thank you very much for your post,

I finally installed office using your method.

But Would you please mention that where the office is installed, I am using Gnome and I can not find the shortcuts of my office anywhere … you help is appreciated.

Thank you in advanced.

Have a look in ~/.wine/drive_c , and search from there.

wine should make launchers for installed windows applications
you should know that windows shortcuts ie lnk files have no effect in Linux or wine
you should check out

~/.local/share/applications/wine/Programs

for launchers wine has created from installed windows apps
as Knurpht said MS Office should be installed in

~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)
