Problems with installing RPM digikam 0.9.4

Hi everybody,

I installed an openSUSE 11 system from DVD successfully.

It shall be used especially for my foto workflow based on OSS.
Therefore I now wanted to install the new RPM digikam 0.9.4 from
the Webpin service but it failed. I did:

  1. Start file explorer
  2. Click on RPM to show the package informations
  3. Click on “Install …”
  4. YAST2 recommends administrator password and opens window.
  5. YAST2 does something for very short time and closes window without error
    message.

With other RPMs I did not encounter that problem.

What to do?

Best regards,
Diproctacanthus.

I looked digikam up in webpin (as you did, but you do not tell which of the about four places where it is found you tried to use).

The one that I would take is from openSUSE KDE Backports. Then I would add Index of /repositories/KDE:/Backports/openSUSE_11.0 to my repos and simply install with YaST.

Always (imho):

  1. See if a decent repo which contains the software is there, when yes, use that repo and install the normal way;
  2. When not revert to installing a sole RPM via YaST;
  3. When that fails download a tarball and start generating/compiling yourself.
