Fatal error in __driConfigOptions line 1, column 0: unknown encoding.
Google Earth has caught signal 6.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed.
This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal
circumstances. A bug report and debugging data have been written
to this text file:
/home/gabriel/.googleearth/crashlogs/crashlog-4c3cf741.txt
Thats what get from updating 5.1 to 5.2 and then trying to launch. Opensource radeon 6.13.1 drivers. 5.1 worked perfectly.

In system info the display card is shown (ATI Radeon LW) but not the driver. It could be a generic driver. If it is the correct driver then I need more help with Google Earth because it shuts down immediately after opening.

Budgie
If you did not install a video driver you should read this
Many thanks. Just what I needed. I have read a good deal and now believe I have the radeon driver loaded which seems to be correct. That doesn’t help much wrt Googlr Earth not working. Will look at error log again and see if that gives me a clue now I have read the references.
Time flies when you are having fun.

budgie
GE needs a 3D driver the Open Source drivers are not full 3D acceleration yet. You need to install the proprietary driver for your card.
