The Xm library is in the packages openmotif-devel

i downloaded openmotif-devel and after typing the “sudo rpm -i openmotif-devel-2.3.2-5.1.i586.rpm” :

i installed “openmotif-2.3.2-5.1.i586.rpm” and “openmotif-libs-2.3.2-5.1.i586.rpm” and “openmotif22-libs-2.2.4-189.1.i586.rpm” but i could not install the “openmotif-devel-2.3.2-5.1.i586.rpm” because of the error:

You have to concentrate on making zypper work, and for that you need to
configure proxy settings.

Since your proxy is not configured for zypper the only solution is to
download that as well (hoping that it does not need another file) and
install that also by hand.
Otherwise the easiest solution would be to configure your university
proxy for opensuse so that you can use yast or zypper to pullin the
dependencies automatically.

It is by far the easiest solution since it resolves then the
dependencies for you
YaST2 -> Editor for sysconfig -> Network -> Proxy
you need to enter the settings your university gave you.

Well, if you can not configure the proxy settings (why not? Have you tried?
What error did you get?) then you have to manually download and install
libjpeg-devel. If this one also complains about something else, download
that something else, till all deps are satisfied, one by tedious one. You
don’t have to ask us about every single one.
Else, configure the proxy settings for zypper and yast.

fortunately i could install openmotif-devl and the library errors have been eliminated.
i am really grateful to martin and robin and all other friends who helped me to solve this problem.
