Problems With Calibre (Ebook Reader)

I am using openSUSE 12.3, 64-bit, with the KDE desktop environment.

I have two problems with Calibre (which is an Ebook reader located in
Office -> Document Viewer):

  1. When I launch Calibre (the one that is currently installed), nothing
    happens;

  2. I am getting a popup notification informing me that a new version of
    Calibre is available. (Right now, I have v. 0.8.63-1.8.1 and it wants
    to install v. 0.9.13-2.2.1.). When I click the Apply button in Apper I
    get the following errore message:

An internal system error has occurred.
A problem that we were not expecting has occurred.
Please report this bug with the error description.

The details of the error are:

Installation aborted by user. (?? I most certainly have not
aborted the installation!)

I have tried to install Calibre using Software Management (YaST
Control Center). It fails there too but I get a better description
of the error:

Unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/calibre/fonts
/liberation: cpio: rename failed - Is a directory

Should I try to completely uninstall Calibre and the install it again
and see how it goes? I am not much of a Linux guru, so I am turning to
this forum for help.

Thanks.

As I recall I installed in 11.4 from the Calibre site. In that case I think it installs as a user program rather then a a system but I forget and am currently in the 12.3 side of my machine.

Remove your installed version and install it directly from the calibre website. It’s a very simple install.
