problems with ati hd4870

Hi,

i got a ati radeon hd4870 with fglrx-driver installed, but still got some problems.
googleearth for example is flickering, also videos i watch. when i got googleearth opened and switch to another screen i always see it in the background, flickering around.
editing videos with kino is the same. vids are played much to fast and also flickering.
i tried a lot, searched every forum i found, but still got no solution.
xorg.conf displays fglrx, the tests for 3d-function are ok, the gears are spinning without any problems. i also got the 3d-accelaration on, so this is working.
maybe its just a matter of some options, but i got no idea what to do.

i hope one of you can help me, got a lot of vids to edit!

have you got desktop effects enabled?

This can lead to the flickering ( bug in drivers )

Turn off all the fancy eye candy ( Customise Desktop>Desktop>Desktop Effects ) and see if that helps.

hi,

i don’t have compiz, don’t like it.
but nevertheless i turned of all effects opensuse has, but the problem still is. but the desktop cube i can’t deactivate. don’t know why. did it 3 times with restart everytime but still there.
googleearth and all other vids are still flickering around.
so this is unfortunatelly not the reason. :frowning:

If you do not have the settings/compiz “On” then there should be no globe.

Can you post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please?

ok, as mentioned videos are played properly but now i got another problem:

all desktop effects are gone. desktop cube and this stuff aren’t available anymore. in system settings desktop cube still is available, but does not work.
is it possible to reinstall this effects?

The desktop effects are what BASKITCASE was referring to in your desktop not just compiz. Composite=“on” is required for these effects to work. So, I guess you get to choose to have everything working or the effects and the flickering for now.

Go to ati’s linux driver site and provide feedback to improve driver and request support for effects. The feedback link can be found on this page. ATI Catalyst™ 8.12 Proprietary Linux x86_64 Display Driver - For Intel® EM64T and AMD64 Platform Architecture
