I’ve been having trouble since being hit by this issue “Black screen on Nvidia after updating to 20260428”. At the time, I was on the 580.* driver, and the new 7.0.1 kernel “broke” my graphics. Although I managed to resolve this issue, since then, I have been unable to upgrade to the 595.* driver.
When I install the 595.* driver using Myrlyn and reboot, I am unable to log in to either a GNOME or KDE session on Wayland (both bump me back to the login screen). I am however able to log in to a KDE session using X11.
I’m trying to install the “regular” NVidia driver - I don’t want to go down the “open” driver route (although I have tried purging all things NVidia and installing it that way, without success), nor do I want to go down the “CUDA” route (although again, I have tried purging my system and installing the driver that way, again without success…)
Looking at all the packages on my system, some of them appear to be mis-matching. But trying to uninstall some keeps pulling in other packages that result in further mis-matches… it all seems to be a bit of a mess!
Looking at Myrlyn, it’s indicating that nvidia-video-g06 is not installed, and nvidia-video-g07 is installed - which is correct.
However… inxi -GMSaz indicates the 580.159.03 driver, not the 595.* driver. I’m now completely confused! ![]()
Maybe it’s a numpty error on my part, but I’m starting to feel like I’m going backwards with my understanding of these things!
Maybe someone could be kind enough to suggest where I’m going wrong?
Have I actually been successful in installing the 595.* driver, and the breakage is due to something else?
Or is my system now completely FUBAR? ![]()
Any help really appreciated!
