I installed OpenSUSE 11.1 w/ GNOME. I want to establish a VPN connection to my office. I have had no problem with network/internet access with the OS. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it would appear I need to install NetworkManager-pptp and NetworkManager-pptp-gnome. NetworkManager and NetworkManager-gnome were already installed. I have successfully installed NetworkManager-pptp* and rebooted numerous times.
After rebooting, I can access the Network Connections UI from “Control Center” and setup the VPN connection definition. But I cannot figure out how to establish the connection.
I do not see anything for NetworkManager in the panel. It’s not even available in the list applets to add to the panel. I see nm-applet --sm-disable has been started. But nothing is in the panel still.
If I kill nm-applet and rerun it, I get
** (nm-applet:5806): WARNING **: No connections defined
I tried running service NetworkManager start but I get
service: no such service NetworkManager
Clearly I’m missing a step. Thoughts?
