Problems installing NVIDIA Drivers

Hey hey

I’ve been trying to install the nvidia drivers using the 1-click install but failed miserably.

I get two error messages right at the start, after I accepted the changes that will be made to my system. First message is:

Download failed:
Failed to download /repodata/repomd.xml from http://download.nvidia.com/11.2/
Historik:[Abstractcommand.cc:195] URI=http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.2/repodata/repomd.xml

Right after that one when I click ok I get:

Cannot access installation media
(Medium 1)
Check whether the server is accessible.

If I retry two or three times it continues to download something but it flashes by to fast for me to see what it is. After that the installation gets stuck at Refreshing repository. It sits like that, loading, for a very long time befor it times out and askes me if I wish to retry.

What can a poor newbie do to deliver me from this evil :’(

Nvidia actually have repo’s set up. You can use them in YaST.

If you go to YaST open that up in the list look for one that says “Software Repositories”, open that then hit “Add”, on the next screen it asks for details of where the Repo is, select “Community Repositorie” Look in the list that brings up and you will see “NVidia”. Put a check in the box and hit ok. Once you have done that in the bottom right corner you will see a “refresh” button. Click on that it should display a menu, select “Refresh All Enabled”. Accept the PGP Key for the NV repo (if it didnt ask you already, sometimes it does).

Then all you do is when it closes hit “Software Management”, if your card is supported in the Repo’s it should select the NV kernel module and the driver for you :). Hit accept and away you go. I’ve had some prob’s with the one click one’s and ended up doing it this way, it’s worked every time and has the latest driver’s available.

It sounded promising but Im experiencing similar problems doing it your way. Now instead I get stuck right after choosing the NVIDIA repo. It sits on Adding archive: NVIDIA repository 0% and doesnt move.

Am I missing some basic step befor that one or could I somehow have broken my Yast? Thanks for the help, its much appriciated

I will continue trying in the morning. The lady says its time for bed :frowning: But please, keep them ideas coming!

Well i don’t think so no…

YaST is normally pretty good but what’s happening sound’s more like a network problem than YaST. I take it your browsing the net from the same PC so it has an external connection, but for some reason it’s choking on the Repo’s. I’ve never had it do that although it can take age’s if you have someone on another PC or downloading.

Have you got anything running in the background? Torrent downloads or anything that could be crushing the bandwidth enough to make the repo time out?

Me and the lady shares connection but she at most uses her computer for facebook and blogging  I had no other downloads running in the background. I allready have tried using a wired connection instead of the wireless. I will try sending the lady off today on some errand so that I may have all bandwith to myself. :stuck_out_tongue:

Failing that and ofcourse voodoo/exorsism I will try and reinstall and if that fails I will revert back to an older version and se if that might end my misery

Didnt work any better with the reinstall of 11.2 so I dont think I had broken anything vital

I ended up trying it the hard way which ended up not so hard since I actually think I managed to follow the instructions. Now to test my accomplishment by installing a game or something

Thanks for the help thou
