I have the same problem with a sony camera. it works right in ubuntu but when I plug it in opensuse 11.2 it gives me the same message in tail -f /var/log/messages. any workaround to get it mounted?
Clearly there is something not working in openSUSE-11.2. Why not write a bug report Submitting Bug Reports - openSUSE , and in that bug report provide the output of " tail -f /var/log/messages " when run as suggested above. And also provide the output (with the camera plugged in) of:
lsusb
df -Th
fdisk -l
When you say “the same problem”, I’m assuming, in this post, that you already checked and that your camera does not appear in the output of “fdisk -l”, for if it does appear then this is not the same problem.
I mean: I have the same problem of usb mass storage recognition with the same details from var/log/messages . I have not enough experience to make tests, sorry. I can only tell that on the same pc with a ubuntu 9.10 the mass storage is recognized
I have the same Problem with USB-Devices after upgrading from Suse 11.1 to 11.2.
no mass-storage is mountet automaticaly. if i do it manualy, for example via yast/partitioner, i can connect to the device. Some devices are not reachable, for example my cowon mp3-player. Here the output of /var/log/messages:

Anybody an idea, why i can#t connect to this device and it does not mount automaticly?
Under 11.1 i had no problem.
Christian
I hate guessing, and you did not provide enough information.
If you note above, I recommend the following information be provided (with USB device plugged in):
lsusb
df -Th
su -c 'fdisk -l'
It would also be useful to provide:
cat /etc/fstab
You only provided “fdisk -l”. IMHO thats not enough.
I verified how work this device (Transcend MP850) in openSUSE 11.2 on other PC with KDE 4.3.1, and in graphical mode, device was mounted.
But at my PC in graphical mode situation not changed even after reinstall or update. In graphical mode not mounting device, but in console all work like in book. In console mode:
command lshal -m :
lshal -m
Start monitoring devicelist:
-------------------------------------------------

and part of output from command fdisk -l :
Disk /dev/sdd: 8387 MB, 8387035136 bytes

Disk identifier: 0x221e5780

/dev/sdd1 * 1 63988 8190448 b W95 FAT32
and that’s mean hal is working in console mode, but is something wrong (or may be blocking) when working in graphical mode.
And about bug report, sincerily I don’t now how and in what category to report this, because I dont’t understand by my self what is the problem. And sorry for my English :’(
@oldcpu
I have noticed that others have reported similar issues under oS11.2. They all claim that it worked under oS11.1. However, I couldn’t reproduce it on any of my machines so far.
Please raise a bug report. You know the problem symptoms. That is enough to raise the bug report.
There is guidance here for raising bug reports: Submit a Bug - openSUSE
Its very easy to raise such a bug report.
I recommend you raise the bug report against
- component: “Hot Plug”
- Hardware: i686 or X86_64
- OS: openSUSE 11.2
Then describe the symptoms you experienced. Provide the details in the bug report that you provided above.
If the “component” chosen is wrong, it can be changed later and re-assigned later.
Posted Bug 564458 on component Hotplug.
Is there a work around for this issue?
Rebooting with my camera plugged in seems to have cured my problem.
Plugging in second USB camera now is also detected.
