problem with USB connected printer

hi

i installed opensuse 11.1 on a dell inspiron.530 x64 bit. connected via USB to the computer is my epson photo 1200 - it is recognised and driver is loaded from database. however, test page suddenly does not print - though i tested this during installation.

here is the troubleshooting debugging log - it says clearly what’s wrong - but i dont know how to fix it???

E [10/Apr/2009:18:51:16 +0200] [Job 31] CUPSToOmni: Fatal error: unable to load “libEpson_Stylus_Photo_1200.so”, g_module_error returns “libEpson_Stylus_Photo_1200.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory”

earlier in the diagnostic log, i also read:

Page 1 (Scheduler not running?):
{‘cups_connection_failure’: False}

but i dont know what this means either! what confuses me in particular is that I know this printer did once print …

i would be very grateful for any help from you guys! willing to try anything & contribute to the documentation if needed (could not find anything on this error there)

cheers, marcus

solved it :slight_smile:

solution lies in replacing the standard (?) CUPS driver for the Epson stylus phot 1200 by the one from the open printing database:

OpenPrinting database - Printer: Epson Stylus Photo 1200

it took me a while this one …

… i should have been more specific: i downloaded the gutenprint x86-64bit RPM for LSB 3.2- the file can be installed if you have the LSB 3.2 distribution (need to install that first). the drivers will sit in /opt/Open-Gutenprint … and in my case, i could add them using the “printing” menu after a couple of trials. installation and adding went smoothly and now i print from anywhere on localhost.
