Problem with stochas

I installed stochas, but I cant find it any were nor will it start from the command-line.

What to do ?

For those wondering:

This seems not to be a standalone app. It is only a plugin for other applications.

There is a stand alone version and there are also plugins versions.

Plugins are in lv2 format and there is also a vst3 version.

I posted on the Linux musicians forum, because that were the package builder also posts and reads. I do not know if he also reads this forum.

Stochas shows for me in YAST, but that probably because I have the geekosdaw repository.

I want to use the plugin maybe in LMMS, but certainly in Ardour.

Ardour supports LV2 plugins, and maybe also VST3.

Stochas is all about making computer music sound less, like its made on a computer.
Mostly applied on the drums.

@Gps2010 so what did you download, where and how did you install it…

I installed it through yast, I have in yast stochas because of geekos daw or the proaudio repository.

So if you run the command which Stochas

@Gps2010 it should be in /usr/bin
https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/multimedia:proaudio/stochas/stochas.spec?expand=1

And case sensitive…

Found it and it seems to be working. :astonished:

its Capital S and now when I search for it , I do find it.

guus@localhost:~> Stochas

Cannot connect to server request channel
jack server is not running or cannot be started
JackShmReadWritePtr::~JackShmReadWritePtr - Init not done for -1, skipping unlock

Some investigation to do about jack. I have jack installed, but am running pipewire.

As far as I understand things, I should not get an jack error.

@Gps2010 is pipewire-jack installed?

I just looked to be sure, and yes:

pipewire-libjack-0_3 - PipeWire libjack replacement libraries.

There is even an update.

@Gps2010 so all good now? I installed jack-dbus pipewire-jack pipewire-libjack-0_3 and no warnings emitted.

I have to take a look in yast, I might have to install more stuff, or uninstall some stuff.

But Stochas did start, so I am optimistic I will be able to get rit , of those errors.

Maybe I need to uninstall some pulse audio stuff first, but my main problem is solved.

Maybe I need to uninstall JACK…

@Gps2010 do you have qpwgraph installed, it gives a nice output as to what is connecting to what…

I just installed qpwgraph

We have a winner, Stochas starts now without any errors.

Jack is still installed. Not sure I still need that but because all seems to work fine, I just leave it installed. If it aint broke, don’t fix it.

It seems I was missing pipewire-jack

One more thing.

When you install Stochas, there won’t be a menu entry.

Easiest way for this is probably to use the command-line.

Or type in kde (program search) the full name, then you see an Xserver icon with text.
The text says execute Stochas.

Now I can try to see if I can get everything working in Ardour.

First project will a drum part.
