Problem with starting Plasma (X11) Desktop

Hi.
I have Leap 15.5
KDE Framework 5.103.0
KDE Plasma 5.27.9
Qt 5.15.8.

Almost every time I boot computer (encrypted disk + encrypted home) I get no Desktop (in meaning that I lack background and can’t left-click mouse and do whatever). I only get bottom bar with applications. I can run different applications though.
What I do to get Plasma/Desktop working is:
I log out as user. Enter user’s password and wait whether my Desktop will start. If not, log out again. At least 4-5 times like this. On login screen I have Plasma Wayland also but some application do not work properly in that environment.
I am tired… and the installation is fresh and from scratch.

What to do to start it (Plasma X11 Desktop) at the first time?

Can you try to log in as another user? Does that work?

It seems you have a separate home partition, if so a re-install is relatively painless and likely the fastest way to solve the problem.

I am the only user, no other user, so can’t test it.
But logging in is not a problem. To appear Plasma Desktop is a problem.
For example today it showed at the first time.
Yesterday I had to logout-login 5 times to Plasma Desktop to appear.

Home is a separate disk. Reinstalling is not a problem, but it is a fresh install anyway. And I keep it updated with zypper up and zypper dup (sometimes).

Have a nice day.

You can create another test user with Yast and log in which that.
Quite some settings and data structures are per user so that is a good thing to try.

Good to hear it is an on/off problem. In that case it would be good to capture the journal for a bad and good run and diff them.

First try to locate such a good and bad boot using “sudo journalctl -b -1” and replace -1 by -2 to get the one but last boot etc. etc.

The make for the good and bad log you found (replace -4/-6 but the correct numbers) a “plain dump” using

sudo journalctl -b -4 -o cat > bad.log
sudo journalctl -b -6 -o cat > good.log

Next try to diff those files and see what is significantly different.
You can also share them in this topic using susepaste if you want.
