Currently i used OpenSuse 10.2 and the Nvidia-Driver works fine :). Under OpenSuse 10.2 the driver was compiled manually by myself.
Now i get OpenSuse 11.0 and the Nvidia-Driver wouldn’t work>:(.
My System:
Betriebssystem: Linux 2.6.25.18-0.2-default i686
Aktueller Benutzer: jens@linux-l095
System: openSUSE 11.0 (i586)
KDE: 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) “release 55.1”
Hersteller: nVidia Corporation
Modell: GeForce FX 5700LE
Treiber: nv
I installed the driver by Yast, and I also manually installed with sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.12-pkg1.run. The effect is the same. After installation the system hang up by start the xserver. When i start sax from Runlevel 3 with sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia i get also a blank screen. The SaX.log-file break after the section:
Today I have delete my Opensuse-System and install it new. Then I installed the Nvidia-Repository under Yast. After restart I tested the nvidia-driver with glxinfo. And it works:)!
Then I run the updates and the same effect then before → black-screen at start of the xserver.
Those repo drivers will only work with one kernel version. If you look at the file name, it has the kernel version at the end.
Maybe try going into YAST with your now-updated kernel and see if it can find a driver that matches your current kernel.
If that does not work, run the installer, but make sure the dependencies are all installed first.
The installer will “build” a driver for whatever kernel version you are currently using. That’s why a lot of people prefer the installer, because you just rerun it after a kernel update and it will build you a new driver.
here is the OS Information from my openSuse

I have downloaded the newest driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.15-pkg1.run and install it manually. See you later.
Here the newest information from the FX 5700LE front!
I compile the driver manually and restart the computer.
And after restart I has the same black screen as everytime!

Have you checked everything on this page and
try the steps outlined. The Legacy driver should
support your card. I have it working fine on my
other system with an old FX5200.
I used YaST to install it. Add this repo to YaST and
it should install the correct driver, etc or tell you if
there is a dependency issue.

I see the 5700LE card listed as supported by the newest non-legacy driver, but it’s also supported by the legacy driver as well. So I would try both.
There are many different driver versions available on the Nvidia site, and occasionally some cards won’t work with the latest driver, so you have to try an older version. If you are patient, you’ll eventually find a version that works.
I would just make double sure you have all the dependencies the the Nvidia installer needs before going any further, because this is a common mistake the I myself have made more than once.
And that installer is definitely NOT going to work without all the dependencies.
(from Nvidia installer instructions)
Kernel sources must be installed and configured. Usually this means
installing the ‘kernel-source’, ‘make’ and ‘gcc’ packages with YaST2.
