Hello there,
I have a problem with my kde4.4.0 desktop icons. When I arrange them the way I want them, if a new icon is created such as a new folder or text file or if Firefox downloads a file to the desktop, all the icons rearrange in alphabetical order it’s as if there’s some sort of auto-arrange feature turned on. I have tried all the options I could find related to it in folder view activity settings and Personal settings and I have googled but didn’t find anything relevant. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
Hi,
Right click on the Desktop or Desktop Folder and choose Folder View Settings. Under the category Display, change the sorting to unsorted.
Take Care,
Ian
Thank you for replying Ian but I did that already and the problem still exists. I think it must be some sort of configuration error or something and I can’t for the life of me figure it out. I’m currently downgrading to KDE4.3.5 and then I’ll try upgrading again. Any further ideas anyone?
Upgrading can have problems because of old configurations files. Rename .kde4 restart X and resetup you desktop. See if the problems still persists.
Thank you gogalthorp, I tried that but the problem still persists. I have now noticed that I don’t have an option to change the theme either. I think it has something to do with desktop activities but I don’t know what to do. If I could get the desktop to work the way it did in KDE4.3 I think that would solve the problem. Any ideas anyone?
You can always create a new user account and see if the problem spills over to it. Then you know it is a config file somewhere.
I tried that already and that account had the same problem.
Any further ideas anyone?
Ok, I figured it out, for anyone who doesn’t already know it’s a bug that has been fixed in KDE 4.4.1 see here:

Hope that helps!!
