Do you get to the login screen?
Are you saying you can login with XFCE?
Have you tested a new user?
I enter the login screen
I can login with xfce.
I tested a new user and it doesnt work.
Now i am trying to reinstall KDE through Yast2.
If it fails what can i do?
Normally, reinstalling won’t help much.
Can you please upload the file /var/log/kdm.log after a failed KDE login to http://susepaste.org and post a link?
I cannot post, i receive a message that says “You are a spammer”
Well, could you upload it to somewhere else then please? It’s likely too long to be posted directly.
F.e. try:
I hope one of them will work for you. I haven’t tried any of them myself yet.
Hm. The last entry in that file is from 2012…
Are you actually using kdm as login screen, or something else?
Let’s try something different:
Run “startkde” in a terminal window. (important: it must be in a graphical session, like XFCE or IceWM)
What happens, does KDE start?
What messages do you get?
It started.
I posted what i see at the terminal
http://pastebay.net/1398674
OK, this rules out an installation problem then.
I see nothing obvious in the output as well.
I’ll take a guess: maybe a graphics driver issue? (if you run “startkde” in XFCE kwin isn’t started as you already have a window manager running)
What graphics card/driver are you using?
What does this report? (you may have to install the package “Mesa-demo-x” to get any output)
glxinfo | grep render
Try to boot to “recovery mode” (“Advanced Options” in the boot menu). Does KDE work then?
I have Nvidia
~> glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on NVC1
GL_MESA_texture_signed_rgba, GL_NV_conditional_render, GL_NV_depth_clamp,
GL_MESA_window_pos, GL_NV_blend_square, GL_NV_conditional_render,
So you’re using nouveau apparently, which depending on the version and the particular graphics card does have problems.
I would suggest you try to install the proprietary nvidia driver:
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers
NVC1 is a GeForce 400 or GeForce 500 series card according to the nouveau homepage, so the latest nvidia driver (G03) should support it.
