Problem with iscan under openSUSE 11.2 solved

I’ve encountered problems with the installation of the proprietery iscan-driver for Epson-Scanners.
Until openSUSE 11.1 I never had problems. Under openSUSE 11.2 I installed iscan-proprietery-driver and iscan-firmware with Yast. When configuring the scanner with Yast, it always told me, that iscan is not installed.
When I was looking for iscan with “whereis iscan” i just got the result for some files in /usr/share/iscan/ and for libraries in /usr/lib/. After a while I uninstalled everything, except the iscan-firmware.
Then I downloaded the driver from the avast site: Download | AVASYS CORPORATION
After this all the applications were installed on the right place. I just had to manually make a link in my Kmenu to /usr/bin/iscan and everything was working.

I read in many other forums, that people have problems with this. That’s why I write here about my solution.

I experienced the same problem EXCEPT - I had installed x86-64 version of 11.2 and the warning note said iscan was not installed and would only work for the 32 bit system!
I then installed the 32 bit version of 11.2 but got the same note Iscan not installed! I then followed your solution and it worked fine, I now have a working scanner.A big thank you!!

QUESTION - Do you know if your solution would work for the 64 bit version? I am not sure I want to go through another install only to find it does NOT work with x86-64.

Thanks

just to let you know, if you install isan from : Software.openSUSE.org
with the tab set to : factory instead of 11.2, (after installation, i remove the factory repo)
iscan will install itself perfectly. and step #2 is to install the scanner with yast.

cheers!
