When I try to install DeVeDe I keep getting a dependency error that has to do with mkisofs. Why is this and what can I do to correct it.
I just installed openSUSE 13.1 and am loving it except for this problem. Anyway openSUSE is great !!!rotfl!

That’s a wrong dependency in the Packman package. There is no mkisofs in the standard distribution.
Just tell YaST/zypper to ignore that dependency error.
And make sure you have “cdrkit-cdrtools-compat” installed, this contains mkisofs.
I was going to report a similar issue with dvdrip to Packman, I will mention this one as well so that they fix it.
dvdshrink and dvdripper have the same issue and all 3 are from the Packman repo
The mkisofs binary exists, it’s a link to the binary genisoimage so the dependency not met is strange, it is supplied by the package cdrkit-cdrtools-compat
I installed it even with the missing dependency and it starts but it seg faulted
There are alternatives to use until this gets resolved:
Thanks for the pointer, I will report those as well.

It requires the package “mkisofs” which does not exist (at least not in the standard repos). It should require /usr/bin/mkisofs instead.
I installed it even with the missing dependency and it starts but it seg faulted
That must be a different issue.
But it doesn’t crash here. (I haven’t tried to create any VCD/DVD yet though)
Can you tell me what you did so it segfaults?
Thank you everyone for the replies. I’m running openSUSE 13.1 w/KDE desktop on a rather old machine and I won’t go into details but its running pretty decently. Very proud to be a “Geeko”…lol!
opened the app, selected divx / mpeg4, selected a file (tried both m4v and flv) and it crashed when I selected a destination folder - note not not an app I ever ran previously
output from command line execution:

OK, I could reproduce this now.
But this seems to be an issue with the Oxygen Gtk theme.
After changing the Gtk2 theme to “Clearlooks” in “Configure Desktop”->“Application Appearance”->“GTK” it doesn’t crash anymore…
Did what you said and DeVeDe installed and ran with no problems. Thank you wolfi323 and to everyone who replied. Problem solved…
Great to be a Geeko !!!lol!
