problem with install software

In my openSUSE-11.2 OS I was upgrading softwares, when suddenly
the application quit and the machine crashed. When after
rebooting I started Install Software, the message came
‘Accessing the Package Management Failed
System Management is locked to the application with pid 7081
(/usr/sbin/packagekitd)
Close this application before trying again.’

How shall I do this?

Quite the updater applet in the system tray

Sorry, I didn’t get it. I switched off the laptop. I restarted
the machine afterwards. The problem is persisting. Only it
is now pid 5511.
Kindly elaborate the path to be followed.

In kde, the updater applet is in the lower right of your screen in the system tray.
I meant to say quit the applet
