Problem with grub2 on gigabyte R9280X (opensuse 13.2 beta1)

Problem with grub2 on Gigabyte R9280X
When I install opensuse 13.2 grub2 don’t show on monitor (but display on TV).
Any solution … same thing is on linux mint 17 KDE but I fix this problem when I install BURG. Opensuse don’t have BURG and I don’t have any idea how i fix this problem.

And what happens if you do not connect TV during installation?

I not tried that but a must have connect TV with PC.

Something different whan I install opensuse 13.2 without conect TV with HDMI cable. I have grub on monitor but that is not acceptable because TV must be connect.

Your installation should not be affected whether you have HDMI connected or not. So run the installation on that computer the way it works and then try to configure it.

Then:
Does the system refuses to boot at all when the TV is connected? Do you have any other OS installed that you want to chose - otherwise you don’t necessarily need to “see” grub? After grub, does the boot-screen or at least the login show (with loaded graphics driver)?

If you really need the boot screen, I can think of two options:

  1. Try to install BURG yourself like so https://code.google.com/p/burg/wiki/ManualInstall
  2. You could install a minimalistic Linux Mint in parallel, install BURG there and opt for opensuse as default.

THX for suggestion i try first option.

It would be interesting to compare what grub2 and burg do with display. Basically, grub2 is using BIOS to make output, so it has no idea about which outputs and which displays card has - card does whatever BIOS thinks is appropriate. Which makes me wonder what so special burg does to (explicitly?) select output.

… actually checking burg code ] … well, burg is early grub2. Except modern grub2 has a couple of more drivers for specific hardware. What adapter do you have? Is it legacy BIOS or EFI system?

IMO root issue is as discussed, you need to determine if the BIOS supports HDMI output.
If it doesn’t then that would explain why you can’t output to your TV during early boot (and installation).
After your system is fully installed, then it’s conceivable that the OS and possibly Desktop will load the required drivers to support HDMI.

This would be similar to how graphics is supported during boot… The VESA driver is typically loaded during the early boot and not until shortly before a Desktop is loaded is the GPU-specific driver loaded.

I have GV-R928XOC-3GD (rev. 2.0) with last bios (F60). I can contact gigabyte support for this issues.
