Problem with dual boot of Windows 7 and SUSE 11.4 on 2 separate hard disks in the sama computer

Dear all,

I have problem with dual boot of Windows 7 and Linux SUSE 11.4, which have to be installed on two separate hard disks in the same computer.

Hard disks are non-RAID, but in computer I have RAID controller.

Graphical card is NVIDIA NVS 450.

Windows 7 was installed on the upper hard disk without any problem. But when I want to install Linux SUSE 11.4 - installation was proper till the moment of restarting OS Linux SUSE 11.4.

OS is getting up. I can see starting panel of SUSE 11.4 and after few seconds monitor blacked out, while the sensor for hard disk blink in the nest 5-10 seconds and then stopped. After that moment computer seems like in a mode of sleep or like OS have some internal problem.

Same case appears when I start OS SUSE 11.4. in failsafe mode.

I would be grateful for you precious help.

Do you have the NVIDIA graphics driver installed? From your description, it sounds like an issue with the default Nouveau driver.

Problem was with drivers for graphical card NVIDIA. I solve this proble, with changing NVIDIA graphical card with ASUS EAH 4350 and instantly I got installation and booting of both OS systrems (SUSE 11.4 and Windows 7).

Cheers

Good, glad you sorted it. I suspect that installation of proprietary NVIDIA driver by following the guidelines on the wiki would also have done the trick, but main thing is you’ve got a working system.
