problem with blank cd/dvd

i have OS 11.1 with KDE 4.
When i insert music or movie cd or dvd everything is ok, system detect it. But when i insert blank medium system detect nothing, i tried to install KDE 3.5 and there is everything ok, but not in KDE 4!!!
Some help please?

Thanks

See if the midia is recognized in your burner software (k3b or other). KDE3 can (or not, it’s configurable) show an icon on the desktop for blank media, mimicking windows behaviour. But unlike windows it’s not a “fake” filesystem, you only get content after the disk contains some content, i.e., is burned.

Probably KDE4 doesn’t have this behaviour, or it isn’t enabled, but if your burner sees your blank CD/DVD there is no problem, after all you can only burn it, there’s no point in mounting it before burning.

My install didn’t add a DVD/RW device to K3B. Had to go to Tools-K3B configuration and add the device which in my case was /dev/sr0. Then blank media was recognized.

Glad you found it.

In 10.2 I remember I also had to add myself to the ‘disk’ group, to clear permission issues.

I seem to have the same problem.
Adding myself to the “disk” and “cdrom” groups does not solve it.
