I recently installed suse 11 on my computer!
My adsl connection (pppoe) was working good in ubuntu and windows but in suse i have some problem!
I followed the steps in Bryan 手æœ* — 生活記趣 » How to connect to internet by PPPOE (KDE or Gnome) on Opensuse
but i can’t connect via pppoe connection! i click on dial-in in kinternet menu, after a few secounds, nothing happens…
what should i do to get connected with my adsl?
thanks
Go to Yast>Network Devices>DSL
Setup your network interface to use network manager and allow control for non root user using kinternet, once u click on kinternet then there should be a image like a lightning bolt over there showing its connecting and once connected the 2 plugs should combine.
You shall see the icon status is connecting when you click on dial-up of kinternet.
If your firewall has enabled you need to take more attention.
I have updated something in my blog for pppoe.
You can see the following address

Thanks everybody!
I tried to ping a website and i succeed!
The problem was with Firefox!
I can browse with konqueror but not in firefox!
That’s why the firefox is in offline mode. I don’t know why it doesn’t find my network automatically!
When i switch it to online mode i can browse!

There was a major bug that I helped solve.
It was solved after the release of openSUSE 11.
Having a look at it should help you solve the problem:

hi i am a linux newbie and need help.
i have an adsl wireless modem connected through ethernet lan port to my desktop and i also use it wireless with my laptop. my isp username and password set in modem settings. i only plug the ethernet cable and connect to internet with automatic ip setting in win xp.
i’ve installed opensuse 11 to my desktop. it is seen as wired connection but internet is not working.
should i set a dsl connection as explained here?
i am confused because it asks for isp username and password for a dsl connection which i’ve set allready in modem.
thanks for your help

Sounds like you have a router with a DSL modem built-in, not a plain vanilla
DSL modem, especially with wireless and ethernet access. If that is the
case, then the router actually logs on to the DSL provider and ISP using
the acount info you programmed in then assigns the ethernet and/or
connections on the other side local network addresses via a built-in DHCP
server. Boot to XP and see what IP address you are assigned (Command
prompt, run ipconfig). If it is a 192.168.xxx.xxx or 10.xxx.xxx.xxx, then
this is definitely the case and you need to configure the ethernet port in
Yast to use DCHP to automatically get an ip address along with nameservers
and a default address.
I actually seldom run into pure DSL modems anymore - and I don’t recall ever
coming across one with a wireless AP built into it.

yes yes this is the case. my working ip in win xp is 192.168…
i think it should be connected out of the box but it does not work.

OK, forget the ADSL part of the question - you have a simple network issue.
Go into Yast Admin -> network devices and configure you network devices.
Set the ethernet device to connect on bootup, use the DHCP option, and
check the other tabs for screwy information (computer name, etc). Get to
where you have Finish button and select it. After the window closes, you
should be able to use the ethernet - assuming Yast found your ethernet
card.
Wireless setup can be a little more involved since you have things like
password/key value and auth type but save that problem for later - get a
connection with the router first.

I can help with usb adsl modems (conexant chip). If anyone is interested I can post the tutorial.
yes i’m interested. Post the tutorial please.
Thanks
try this](http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-hardware-18/install-conexant-usb-adsl-modem-654038/page2.html#post3227518). it’s good for all distros I’ve tried, ubuntu, slackware, mandriva, etc.
Thank you for this, i’ll try it on opensuse 11.0
