problem with 3ware raid5 and xfs

Hi Everyone

I thought I’d post here and see if I can get any further pointers for a recurring problem I have…

I have a raid 5 array done by hardware - 3ware - with 6 drives attached. Every 3 weeks or so we seem to get an error with one of the drives, but it doesn’t show as being degraded just an error.

I’ve rebuilt the raid several times now and all seems to go well for a few weeks, then the error re-occurs. All the hardware has now been replaced - 3ware card, backplane, drive and cables, but it still fails sporadically.

The boot and lvm are both formatted as xfs. I’ve run out of ideas at getting to the root cause of the problem so would be grateful of anyone’s input. The rebuild has just completed again and everything is looking fine once again. Is there anything else I can check or do?

it would be more helpful if you show us what kind of error you get… file system specific? hardware specific?

Well I can say the problem doesn’t show up in linux - that’s running fine. It’s when I use the 3Ware utility to check drive status that it shows up.

I’m running through another rebuild and will then do xfs_check and xfs_repair across the whole lot to see if that gives me anymore clues.
