Problem upgrading to openSuSE11.1

My Problem
For an half year ago I did a fresh install of SuSE 11.0. It is working fine without troubles.
Soft raid RAID1 is installed. Now experimenting with upgrading SuSE 11.1 I noticed that that no valid system is recognized on any of the partitions. That means that it is impossible to upgrade to 11.1. Only a new installation is allowed.

My upgrade procedure:

  1. starting up the installation DVD

  2. choosing “Update” in stead of " New installation"
    Result
System Partition Architecture File system Label
    Unknown Linux /dev/mapper/nvidia-ebaach_part1 Unknown DMRAID (ext3) md0-boot_part
    Unknown Linux /dev/mapper/nvidia-ebaach_part5 Unknown DMRAID (ext3) md2-root_part
    Unknown Linux /dev/mapper/nvidia-ebaach_part6 Unknown DMRAID (ext3) md3-home_part
    Unknown Linux /dev/mapper/nvidia-ebaach_part7 Unknown DMRAID (ext3) md4-srv_part
    Unknown Linux /dev/md0 Unknown LinuxAID (ext3) md0-boot_part
    Unknown Linux /dev/md2 Unknown LinuxAID (ext3) md0-root_part
    Unknown Linux /dev/md3 Unknown LinuxAID (ext3) md0-home_part
    .
    .
    etcetera.

  3. Repairing with openSuSE 11.0 DVD has the same result.

My system
MB: ASUS M2N-NX
Processor: dual Core
Kernel: Linux my.inter.net 2.6.25.18-0.2-default #1 SMP 2008-10-21 16:30:26 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Question
Somewhere in the system files there must be an indication telling at start of the upgrade session what system is installed.
I would be pleased if someone can help me.
