Problem turning off Dell 1525 laptop

I just installed 12.1 on my Dell 1525 Laptop. I’m running KDE.

If I right click on screen and choose Leave–>Turn off Computer, the
computer thinks for a bit and then the screen goes black. I’ve waited
a minute but nothing happens – the screen stays black and the power
light stays on. But if I tap the on/off button, the splash screen reappears
and the computer shuts off a few seconds later. Clearly not a critical
problem, but a real annoyance.

One other thing, somewhat anecdotal. I think it does this more often when
I use the laptop at home where I’m almost always running WiFi and VPN than
at work where I use a wired ethernet and no VPN.
