Your first post identified the machine as openSUSE 12.2. Is it 12.2 or 12.3?

Perhaps if James is still following this thread he will have some idea why your
Windows machines use the loopback address. I don’t know how a misconfiguration
of Linux could have have this effect.

You can check the hostname from:
YaST > Network Devices > Network Settings > Hostname/DNS.

Do your machines register a name with DNS? What is the result of:


nslookup Linuxgateway

Note: Both Windows and Linux can use nslookup
