So I installed opensuse 11.1 just yesterday on my Thinkpad X30; first I tried to run it from LiveCD but it hanged just before loading Gnome, so I performed network installation instead. Installation went fine but when I try to run my system it goes only as far as login screen. Well, not even that far - I only get the login screen background, a white rectangle in the middle and some sort of panel on the bottom of the screen. I can only move the cursor around but everything else is dead and I have to do a hard reset.
I had similar problem with Ubuntu 8.10 as described here and fixed it by uninstalling Compiz. I tried that with opensuse but problem persist.
Do you have any ideas how can I fix this?
