If you have no success with the audio troubleshooting guide, then we will need more information if any of us are to make a good recommendation … So can you provide more very detailed information so a good recommendation can be given? You can do that, with your PC connected to the internet, by opening a gnome-terminal or a kde konsole and typing with root permissions, the following twice:
/usr/sbin/alsa-info.shthe first time it will update the diagnostic script, and the second time the diagnostic script will post the output (of your PCs hardware/software audio config) to a web site on the Internet. It will give you the URL of the web site. Please post that URL here. Just the URL.
Also, please copy and paste the following commands one line at a time into a gnome-terminal or a konsole and post here the output: rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep pulse
rpm -q libasound2
uname -a
cat /etc/modprobe.d/soundWe also need that output.
I’ve had this problem before many times with various machines, and usually, it is just that the volume is too low. I know, you’ve already cranked your volume, but really, you probably haven’t. There is usually a separate control for the laptop speakers called front, another for pcm (not sure what that one is), and your master controller. In addition to that, you might have an onboard amplifier, and there is likely a manual volume control on the chassis somewhere, which I always turn right down before installing on any laptop because the volume sometimes adjusts according to the position of this manual control, meaning that if its maxed during install, you can later only use it to turn the volume down. Anyhow, open up your menu, click on more applications, go to the system section, and then click on Volume Control. If its not there, open your package manager and search for it. I can remember if I had to install it, or if it was already in the base install. Anyhow, click on edit/preferences, and you’ll get a list of which controls to show. Pick the ones you need, then adjust to suit your needs. Good luck.
