Problem mounting cd's

Hi guys and thanks in advance
Just done a fresh install of 11.3 in KDE, downloaded the live-cd yesterday.
Problem is that cd’s aren’t auto-mounting, though k3b does show them up shortly after putting them in the drive. It’s just that nothing else seems to recognise them.

I tried this:

mount /dev/sr0 /media/cd/

as root and that seemed to freeze for a while and then eventually mounted it after a minute or so.

/etc/fstab:

/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi_HTS541612J9SA00_SB3D82EWGTL49M-part5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi_HTS541612J9SA00_SB3D82EWGTL49M-part6 / ext4 acl,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Hitachi_HTS541612J9SA00_SB3D82EWGTL49M-part7 /home ext4 acl,user_xattr 1 2
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
debugfs /sys/kernel/debug debugfs noauto 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0

Would love it to auto mount. All the other threads I’ve checked out either went over my head or were un-resolved.
Many thanks
Ben

So, when we use the word CD what type of disk do you mean? Is this an audio CD perhaps? If so, audio CD’s are not mounted like data CD are mounted. You should be given an option to play the CD’s with something like k3b perhaps, but you are not going to view its directory outside of a CD playing program. I have an interesting thread on Optical drive naming you may also wish to read which affects who is called what (like /dev/cdrom) when you have more than one removable media drive installed.

Multimedia Optical Drive Naming (ie /dev/dvd & /dev/cdrom) Howto in opneSUSE

Thank You,

Thanks for replying. I’m actually working with data discs at the mo, although haven’t tried an music disc yet.

The Notifications applet needs configuring; unfortunately, the option to configure it only appears after you have inserted something. So login to the desktop and once everything has started insert a disk in the drive. It should whirr for a while and, hopefully, the notifications applet should become available for configuring.
